Depression
We have all felt sad from time to time, and even had bad days or weeks. However, experiencing hopelessness or despair for long periods of time can affect your daily functioning and result in depression. Symptoms may include lack of motivation, low energy, withdrawal from activities and/or relationships and sleep issues.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a feeling of worry and fear of a real or perceived threat. It can cause people to ruminate in thoughts of worst-case scenarios and to prepare for situations with anticipation and apprehension. Chronic anxiety can have an impact on our physical body, relationships, and performance.
Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence, also known as Family Violence, occurs when one person uses power and control to intimidate, cause fear and abuse to another person. The abuse can be physical, emotional, sexual, verbal, and financial. It may include a single act of violence or a repeated pattern.
Addictions
An addiction can be defined as a compulsive behaviour that results in short-term pleasure, but has potential for long-term negative impacts on physical health, emotional well-being, relationships and day to day functioning. Addictions can include: substance abuse, caffiene, food, gambling, video games, or pornography.
Trauma
Trauma is a negative experience that has a great impact on us which may impair our ability to cope. Trauma is often interpreted differently by each person based on how they personally define and make sense of their experience. Examples of traumatic events can include: abuse, sexual violence, bullying, death, natural disasters, neglect, or motor vehicle accidents.
Perfectionism
Aiming for perfectionism can cause anxiety and disappointment. This is becuase we can get caught up in unrealistic expectations of ourselves, others, and life. Since perfectionism is unattainable, it can cause feelings of guilt and self-criticism because we believe we have fallen short of what our mind imagined as an ideal outcome.
